Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions we get most from operators. If yours is not here, email josh@theedgemile.com and you will get a reply from a person who has climbed the tower, not a ticket bot.
Do you actually run this equipment yourselves?
Yes. TheEdgeMile is run by working WISP operators, not resellers. The Nokia AZQC kits, Baicells radios, and the Rapid5GS core we sell are the same equipment we deploy and operate on our own towers in Alabama. If something is on the store, it is because we would buy it ourselves.
What is Rapid5GS, and is it really free?
Rapid5GS is our open-source LTE/5G packet core. The free build is on GitHub with documentation at rapid5gs.com, and it will run a real network. Rapid5GS Pro adds the full GUI, multi-APN support, and 8 hours of deployment consulting for operators who want a faster path to production.
What does “tested” mean on refurbished hardware?
Every used or refurbished unit is bench-checked before it ships: powered, provisioned, and verified attaching subscribers on known-good firmware. We publish what we test with, and radios ship on the firmware build we would run ourselves.
What is your warranty and return policy?
Warranty terms are listed on each product page, since they differ between new, used, and refurbished equipment and services. If something arrives dead or not as described, email josh@theedgemile.com and we will make it right. Please contact us before returning anything so we can issue instructions. The full policy is in our Terms and Conditions.
How does shipping work for heavy or freight-class items?
Parcel-class items ship standard carriers. Freight-class gear (full site kits, trucks, plows) moves through our freight partner DNA Supply Chain, who handle crating, lift gates, and customs. The whole story is on our Shipping page.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. International shipments go through DNA Supply Chain, who handle HS classification and customs clearance through brokerage relationships built over decades. See the Shipping page for how that works.
Where can I download Baicells 436Q or Titan 4000 firmware?
We mirror firmware the vendors no longer make easy to find, with published SHA-256 checksums: Baicells 436Q firmware (BaiBLQ) and Global Telecom Titan 4000 firmware. These are unofficial mirrors provided as a courtesy, with no warranty. Verify the checksum before flashing.
Can you unlock my FreedomFi-locked Baicells radio?
Yes. We convert FreedomFi-locked units remotely: 436H to 436Q and 430H to 430i. You get standard Baicells firmware and HaloB back.
Do I need a license to run CBRS equipment?
You need a SAS grant to transmit legally on CBRS (FCC Part 96), but for GAA use you do not need to buy spectrum. Register the radio with a SAS provider, and confirm the grant after any firmware change. Consulting hours with our kits cover getting this right.
What do the included consulting hours cover?
The Nokia AZQC 3-Sector Site Kit and Rapid5GS Pro each include 8 hours of remote consulting. We use them to stand up your core, import SIMs, configure the SMF, and get sectors on air. Most operators have service running before the hours run out.
Can you finance equipment, or build the tower too?
Both. Financing options are on the Financing page. Tower construction, from foundations to antenna install, runs through our construction partner Vertical Axis; see the Construction page.
